Striker Doyal Alves on Claiming the Golden Boot, Team Effort, and What’s Next

At 24, Doyal Alves has emerged as one of Goa’s most consistent strikers, leading Sporting Clube de Goa to their eighth Goa Professional League (GPL) title and finishing the season as the league’s Golden Boot winner with 15 goals. Yet, for the forward from Vanxem, Loutolim, the real objective lies beyond state honours.

“If I had the opportunity to trade these GPL goals for I-League promotion, I would do it,” Alves said after Sporting sealed the title with a goalless draw against Dempo SC. The team’s third-place finish in I-League 2 left them just short of national promotion, finishing third when only the top two advanced.

Alves’ football journey is rooted in pure passion. “From my childhood, I dreamed of becoming a good football player. Football is my passion,” he says. Inspired by Cristiano Ronaldo, Alves has adopted a similar mindset of discipline, hard work, and continuous improvement.

Since joining Sporting Clube de Goa two years ago, Alves has grown into a reliable attacking option, with two seasons in I-League 2 playing a key role in sharpening his skills and overall game.

One of Alves’ standout moments came during the Bandodkar Gold Trophy, where he scored against Dempo SC at the Fatorda Stadium, a match he still considers one of the most memorable yet in a career that’s only just begun.

Handling pressure on the pitch is second nature to Alves. “I try to keep my mind calm and stay focused on the game. That’s how I approach important matches,” he explains. His preparation is built on maintaining physical fitness and mental clarity. “Good rest and proper sleep are very important. I start my day with a positive vibe and peaceful mind,” he adds.

Alves credits Sporting Clube de Goa’s environment for his growth. “I challenged myself to give my best. The team and coaching staff supported me, and with consistent practice, I’ve improved a lot,” he shares.

For now, Sporting’s top scorer is staying grounded. His message to aspiring footballers is clear: “Be focused on what you want to achieve, and always keep consistency.”

As for his long-term goals, Alves remains ambitious but patient. “If I get more opportunities in football, I will give my best,” he says. With Sporting Clube de Goa, he has only just begun to scratch the surface of his potential.

The Golden Boot is a milestone, but for Doyal Alves, the ultimate target is to help his team earn their place on the national stage.
