Duler, October 15: Sporting Clube de Goa claimed a dramatic 1-0 victory over Goa Police SC in their fifth GPL fixture at Duler Stadium on Wednesday, with substitute Leran Dias heading home a stoppage-time winner. The victory marked another strong display of determination and attacking intent from the away side.
The first half saw Sporting dictate play, creating several promising opportunities. In the 27th minute, Prince Figueiredo attempted a shot, which eventually reached captain Kunal Kundaikar, though his effort went wide. Moments later, Prince’s corner-kick attempt also narrowly missed the target. Sporting earned a free kick in the 39th minute after Joyson Coutinho was fouled by Goa Police’s Lavnay, who received a yellow card. Letzamang Haokip delivered the set piece into the box, but despite a flurry of attempts from Kunal, Joel Colaco, and Prince, the ball remained out of the net. The first half ended with Sporting goalkeeper Abhimanyu Singh making a crucial save to keep the sides level.
In the second half, Sporting continued to press, with a 55th-minute cross from Kunal finding Doyal Alves, whose shot went just wide. Both teams battled hard, but the decisive moment came deep into stoppage time. Letzamang Haokip’s corner found substitute Leran Dias, who headed home at close range to secure a dramatic late win for Sporting.
The win puts another three points in the bag for Sporting Clube de Goa, who pushed relentlessly throughout the match and now aim to carry that momentum into their clash with Cortalim Villagers SWSC at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on October 24 at 3:45 PM.
