After an illustrious career with Dempo SC, where he led the club to five national titles, Arman Colaco’s return to football came through an unexpected but heartfelt opportunity. Colaco, a footballing legend in Goa, took charge of Sporting Clube de Goa (SCG) with one clear goal: to elevate the team to the top flight of Indian football.
“I can’t live without football,” Colaco admits, reflecting on his decision to join SCG after years of success with Dempo. “When Sporting gave me an offer, I straightaway jumped at it without even looking back.”
A New Chapter at SCG
Colaco’s switch to SCG came after being offered the position by the late Peter Vaz, a close friend and the former owner of the club, who had previously asked him to take the reins during a relegation battle. Due to health concerns at the time, Colaco had to decline. However, the opportunity resurfaced, and this time, it was Peter’s son Nathan Vaz, along with SCG’s CEO Welvin Fernandes and manager Anju, who extended the offer.
“I grabbed this opportunity because they believed in me,” Colaco said. “It would have been much better if Peter had been alive to see me with Sporting.”
Pushing the Club Forward
Despite already guiding SCG to key milestones, Colaco feels that there’s still much more to accomplish with the club. His mission is clear: take SCG to the next level. “We are going to try our level best to take this team to the ladder of success. The Vaz family is crazy for football—we can’t let them down,” he asserts.
Colaco credits the passion of Nathan Vaz and the rest of the Vaz family for keeping him motivated, stating that Peter’s legacy and the family’s commitment to football are a continuous source of inspiration.
The Road Ahead
Looking ahead to the next season, Colaco has ambitious plans for the squad. His primary focus is promotion to the I-League. The core of the team remains the same, but Colaco is actively scouting for new talent to bolster the team in all departments. “With the support of the Vaz family, Nathan, Danira, CEO Welvin, Manager Anju, my coaching staff, and the players, along with our new Technical Director Savio Madeira, we are heading in the right direction,” Colaco shared confidently.
Colaco’s journey with Sporting Clube de Goa is driven by passion, loyalty, and a commitment to delivering results, making it clear that the club’s future under his guidance holds immense promise.
