Sporting Clube de Goa Hold Third Place Ahead of Final Match of the I-League 2 Season

Goa, April 27- Sporting Clube de Goa remain in third place on the league table with 26 points from 15 matches, following a hard-fought 1-1 draw against FC Bengaluru United in Bengaluru. Despite a determined campaign, the team has now officially missed out on promotion to the I-League, with two other clubs already having secured their spots. However, Sporting have continued to show resilience and competitiveness, capping off a respectable season with consistent performances.

Earlier in April, Sporting grabbed a vital away win over TRAU with a narrow 1-0 victory in Manipur, courtesy of a late goal from Vikram Venkatachalam. The match saw Sporting dominate in possession and create several chances before finally breaking through in the 88th minute. Their next match, against Neroca FC on April 11, ended in disappointment, as the team fell 1-2 despite Neroca being reduced to ten men early in the game. Joyson G did manage to pull one back for Sporting, but a missed penalty and a late missed opportunity left the team with no points.

Their most recent outing on April 19 against FC Bengaluru United saw Sporting come from behind to earn a point. After conceding in the first half, they responded with attacking pressure and drew level in the 70th minute through a calmly taken penalty by attacking forward Doyal Alves. The team pushed for a winner, but the match ended in a 1-1 stalemate.

With promotion no longer in reach, Sporting Clube de Goa concluded their season with a final clash against rivals SAT on April 25 at Bambolim Stadium in Goa. Aiming to finish strong and hold on to their third-place standing, the team closed out a campaign marked by grit, effort, and unwavering teamwork.
