Founded in the year 1999, Sporting Clube de Goa is owned by Goa based Businessman Peter Vaz and currently ply their trade in Goa’s top tier league  Goa Professional League.  The Club nicknamed as Flaming Oranje play their home matches at Duler Stadium, Mapusa.

The club, built on the lines of Portuguese club Sporting Clube de Portugal, had made rapid strides in the National circuit ever since from the time of inception. Sporting shot into prominence by an impressive performance in the 2001–02 Federation Cup and made their debut in the Indian National Football League in the 2003-04 season.

Sporting Clube de Goa emerged National Football League runners-up in 2004-05 season and were the unfortunate losers on three occasions in the  Federation Cup. However, the only National silverware that is in the kitty of SCG is the Super Cup 2004-05.

A force to reckon with, Sporting Clube de Goa competed in the I-League for more than a decade before withdrawing themselves from the National scene due to uncertainty over the Indian Football Roadmap. The Panjim-based club has contributed immensely to the National Football by producing quality footballers. Club legend Bibaino Fernandes, Felix D’Souza, Brandon Fernandes, Adil Khan, Rowllin Borges are few among the many who went on to represent the Nation. Sporting Clube de Goa also had recruited some of the best foreigners to play on Indian soil, the most prominent of them being Nigerian MacPherlin Dudu Omagbemi who went on to play in the UEFA Champions League. Other well known foreigners to don the Flaming Oranje colours were Adebayo Adewusi, Clifford Chikuwuma, Bello Razaq, Kalu Ogba, Gonzalo Neila, Arturro Garcia, Angel Berlanga, Luciano Sabrosa.

Now with their concentration being narrowed down to just the State league, Sporting Clube de Goa aim to win their fifth title not forgetting the mission of promoting young talent to National Football.

The club Cidade de Goa (City of Goa) was purchased by Sporting’s current owners and renamed Sporting Clube de Goa in 1999.
